Jukka Rintala – On a journey of dreams
15.6.–1.9.2024

An invitational exhibition celebrating the extensive life’s work of fashion artist Jukka Rintala is a tribute to the artist whose handprint has been visible over the decades in stunning unique costumes, industrial collections and paintings. The exhibition is also a tribute to the skilled seamstresses who have completed the demanding patterns and sewing.

A strong line and at times a softness are characteristic features of Jukka Rintala’s work. His unique costumes are works of art, where the combination of different materials creates unique atmospheres.

The exhibition is built on three floors. On the first floor are several stunningly beautiful dresses by famous and distinguished women. On the catwalk on the second floor, the costume collection is surrounded by art deco paintings on the walls, painted by an artist in the 1980s. On the top floor is Jukka Rintala’s “creativity line”, which shows the evolution of his work from the 80s to the present day, as well as theatre costumes, jewellery and fantasy dresses.

More information about the exhibition will be updated on the museum’s website.

The Kaukola woman’s national costume has been a popular and beloved national costume model for Finns since its release. When U.T. Sirelius published the Karelian Kaukola woman’s national costume in 1921, its popularity has been unwavering ever since.

Over its long history, the Kaukola costume has moved with the times and its appearance has changed. This change is presented in the Kuja exhibition, which features Kaukola’s national costumes from Finland, collections of the Finnish National Costume Centre.
