Grass to meadow -workshop
Do you want to do something small for biodiversity and learn how you can turn useless grassland into multi-species meadows in your own yard?
This year, the University of Jyväskylä’s Botanical Garden is once again volunteering to shovel a piece of urban lawn into a blooming urban meadow that is loved by pollinators and butterflies. This year’s Grass to Meadow event will take place on the grassy area at the western end of Mattilanniemi Park (at the end of buildings B and C) on 6-7 July 2024, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can join us for the whole time or for a shorter time! While you’re there, ask the Botanic Garden’s designer and other event facilitators for their best tips on establishing and maintaining your own backyard meadow areas.
Tools and cold drinks are provided by the organisers, and you can take a dip in Lake Jyväsjärvi from the nearby Mattilanniemi beach if you wish.
The event is organised in cooperation with the University of Jyväskylä Botanical Garden, Jyväskylän Kesä, the University of Jyväskylä Wisdom Network, Suomen yliopistokiinteistöt (SYK Oy) and TL-Maint Property Services, who manages the park.
